7 Items for Your Next College Sports Event

By Julia Dunn on September 16, 2017

As the fall term starts up again at universities around the U.S., many students are getting fired up about college sports. Even if you’ve never understood the rules of football or can’t seem to understand how lacrosse works, college sports games are fun simply because of the community atmosphere and all of the spirited energy.

Whether you love to support your college’s football, volleyball, baseball, tennis, softball, lacrosse or soccer teams, you’ll need some supplies!

Here are seven things you need for your next sports event.

1. Jerseys and athlete apparel

What better way to show allegiance to your favorite sports team than to sport their apparel? These days, universities make a wide variety of sports apparel, including sports-themed t-shirts, long-sleeved shirts, shorts, pajama pants, slippers, stickers, thermos cups, headbands, hats, sweatshirts, key chains, sunglasses, hats, leggings, water bottles, and even more. Next time it’s game day, don’t leave the house in anything but your sporty shirt (like this Washington State Cougars long-sleeve!)

2. Padded stadium seats

If your favorite sport takes place in a stadium, die-hard fans should consider purchasing a stadium seat! While it’s true that you may spend more time standing up and rooting for your team on foot, sitting on those cold metal bleacher benches can really take a toll on your body (they aren’t the most comfortable, as you know). A cushioned stadium seat such as this one has a reclining back, perfect for long football or soccer games!

3. Thermos cup

You know those sports events can run long, and when it hits 10-11 p.m., it will probably get cold especially in the fall and winter months.

Don’t be caught without your thermos full of hot coffee or tea! You can pick up a thermos at your college’s bookstore or apparel website to sip in style — look for a design that includes steel or other insulation so that your beverage is kept at the perfect temperature all night.

You can even fill your thermos with some warm soup if you’re more hungry than thirsty!

4. A cooler tote bag (pun intended)

Most of us know the classic blue (or red) cooler on wheels that has made its way into every tailgating party thus far — fill it with ice, and your beverages will stay cold and ready for your party guests for a good number of hours. But those coolers can be clunky and hard to carry sometimes. What to use instead? An insulated tote bag!

These bags are great for keeping your snacks and drinks cold during a tailgate party while allowing you the convenience of carrying them as a tote bag. Bags like this University of Michigan Wolverines tote feature a PVC interior liner, which makes your bag both water-resistant and heat-sealed. This is the cooler 2.0! Pick one up before your next sporty get-together or bring it straight to the game; you’ll be all set, wherever you are.

5. Baseball cap (with your university’s sports logo on it, of course)

If you enjoy daytime sports games, the sun can really wear you down when the heat is at its high. Forgot your sunscreen or umbrella? Throw on a spirited baseball cap to escape the heat and reduce the chances of getting sunburned on your face. You can stay cool and show support for your teams at the same time!

6. Duffle bag

How are you going to bring all of these items to the game? Pick up a sporty duffle bag that shows off your favorite teams! They have compartments for all your supplies so you’ll never experience that frustrating feeling of having left one of your bags in the stadium parking lot, or worse, leaving one at home. With a duffle bag, you can fit almost everything you’d need for a night on the field or beside the basketball courts all in one, so you probably won’t forget it anywhere! (If you’re a Michigan State student, grab your Spartan duffle bag here!)

7. Tailgate chair and table set

This chair and table set is an all-around winner for sports season because it’s portable and useful in so many settings! If you’re down on the field watching your roommate’s soccer team, you can set up the chair wherever gives you the best view, and place the table right beside you for your chips and salsa.

The chairs have cup holders built into the armrests, so you’ll never be dehydrated even after a long stretch outdoors. They’ll give you some back support, unlike sets of bleachers, and the chairs work fabulously even when you’re not at a sports game (beach days, pool days, these pop-up chairs are perfect for any outdoor activity — even just lounging in the backyard for a little get together with friends!) This set is great for Ohio State Buckeyes fans!

Clearly, there are so many ways you can show your school spirit this sports season and cheer your teams on to victory. Assemble your gear, snacks, and friends, and you’ll be on your way to the game in no time! As my non-sporty friends and I would say, “goooo sport-ball!”
